Learn about airline baggage policies for ski and snowboard equipment. If you plan on hitting the slopes during your Jackson Hole vacation, you can bring your ski and snowboard equipment as checked baggage. Please note individual airline regulations.

American

Ski and Snowboard Equipment Policy

Allowance: Skis and the ski boot bag are counted as one piece of luggage and will be charged as such.

Baggage Specifications

You can bring one small carry-on bag plus one personal item per passenger as long as the carry-on bag fits comfortably in the size without being forced and does not exceed overall dimensions of 45 inches (length + width + height).

The maximum dimensions cannot exceed any of the following measurements: 22" long x 14" wide x 9" tall or 114cm (56 x 35 x 23 cm). All carry-on items should be stowed in an overhead bin.

Personal item - includes: purse, briefcase, laptop bag OR a similar item such as a tote that does not exceed 36 inches(length+width+height) and must fit under the seat in front of you.

Ski and Snowboard Equipment Policy

You can bring your ski and snowboard equipment as checked baggage. One ski/pole bag or one snowboard bag, and one boot bag is accepted per person. The combined weight of the ski/snowboard bag and the boot bag may not exceed 50 lbs. or excess baggage fees will apply. The linear dimension may exceed 80 inches (203 cm).

You may carry on one bag and one personal item at no charge. Please note that all items must easily fit into the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.

Approved Personal Carry-on Items

1 purse, briefcase, camera bag, or diaper bag;
or 1 laptop computer (computers cannot be checked and must be carried on);
or 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above.

Baggage may not exceed 45 linear inches (or 115 cm) in combined length, width, and height.

Baggage must fit easily in the Carry-on Baggage Check, which is located near the check-in counters and at the gate and is approximately 22" x 14" x 9" (or 56 x 36 x 23 cm).

United

Checked baggage for travel within the U.S.

Tickets issued on/after August 31, 2018: We’re increasing first and second checked bag fees on Caribbean, Central and North America United and United Express-operated flights. Tickets that are voluntarily reissued on/after August 31, 2018 will also be subject to the new bag fees.

$30 for the first checked bag
$40 for the second checked bag

Allowance/requirements

1 item of ski equipment:

Up to 2 pairs of snow skis and associated equipment in 1 bag and 1 ski boot bag (Note: If ski boot bag contains other items in addition to or in place of boots, it will be subject to applicable baggage fees or excess baggage fees.)
1 set of ski equipment is allowed in place of one checked bag.
If more than one set of ski equipment is checked, each additional set of equipment (as outlined above) will be counted as one special item, and the associated fee(s) will apply.

Maximum size/weight:

If combined weight of ski bag and boot bag exceed 50 pounds (23 kg), an overweight fee applies.
If ski bag measures more than 62 inches (157 cm) and/or contains other items in addition to or in place of ski equipment, an oversized fee applies.

Please note: United Airlines is not liable for damage to water skis or snow skis. Excess valuation may not be purchased for water or snow skiing equipment or wakeboards.

Carry-on baggage policies for all United travel

For worldwide travel on any United flight, you may carry on one bag and one personal item such as a large shoulder bag, large backpack, briefcase, laptop bag or an item of similar size. Your carry-on bag:

Must fit under your seat or in the overhead bin;
Must not be more than 9 x 14 x 22 inches (23 x 35 x 56 cm) or 45 linear inches* (114 linear cm); and
May be required to travel as checked baggage if the bag cannot be safely stowed on your flight.
